The Fall River Licensing Board met virtually on December 16, 2020, with Chairman John Celino and board members Mr. McCoy and Mrs. Esposito in attendance. The board considered several licensing applications, beginning by tabling a change of manager request for the Fall River Country Club and tabling a Class 2 auto sales license application for Carlos Auto Sales and Repairs due to an unresolved issue with the applicant’s driver’s license. The board approved a Class 2 license for North Main Street Auto Sales and Service LLC at 17 Stewart Street, as well as pandemic-related hour adjustments for the Fall River Sports Club and The Cove Restaurant. Attorney David Assad presented an application on behalf of The Island Buffet Inc. at 840 Bedford Street, which was granted a new beer and wine common victualler license along with approval for manager Gladarus M. Verdejo Castillo.
The board then conducted annual renewals for 2021 across various license classifications. Notably, the board separated out and conditionally approved the renewal for the Republican Club under club all-alcohol licenses, withholding issuance until a pending disciplinary suspension is served or resolved by the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC). Similarly, following an inquiry from resident Patrick Higgins regarding the closure of BK’s Beacon Tavern, the board renewed the tavern’s license on condition that it remain unissued until a transfer application or plan is submitted.
Under old and new business, the board voted to receive and place on file an operational update from Eduardo Farietta of Royal Family Restaurant, approved a six-month hold on the license for South Main Equity d/b/a China Royal upon request by Mr. Yee, and voted to hold the liquor license for King Philip Yacht Club following the resignation of its bar manager until a successor is formally approved. The board concluded the meeting by establishing and approving its meeting calendar for 2021.
